MAISONS DU QUANTIQUE

Maisons du quantique

The Quantum Hubs

To promote the adoption of new paradigms in hybrid quantum computing, while also ensuring that the various local ecosystems for high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum computing are well represented within a coherent national framework, HQI has launched an initiative called “Quantum Hubs.”

 There are five “Quantum Hubs” in France, officially designated as such:

  • Ile-de-France Quantum Hub, Quorum
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine Quantum Hub, HybQuant
  • Grand-Est Quantum Hub, MaQuEst
  • Occitanie Quantum Hub, MQO
  • Maison du Quantique de Grenoble Alpes, MQAlpes

The five “Maisons du Quantique” were selected through a call for proposals in 2024. Co-funding will run for three years starting in January 2025.

The Missions of the “Maisons du Quantique”

The “Maisons du Quantique” initiative aims to promote the dissemination of quantum technology and support communities through the following missions:

Enhance the usability of the HQI platform’s classical and quantum computing resources:

  • Develop a software ecosystem, as well as intuitive software tools;
  • Develop hybrid applications;
  • Enhance France’s international standing and influence;
  • Attract international talent in quantum computing;
  • Encourage foreign quantum computing hardware and software startups to establish themselves in France;
  • Promote and expand the use of the platform in France:
  • Provide support, training, and outreach;
  • Organize hackathons and challenges.

Schematic overview of the Maisons du Quantique initiative, led by the HQI initiative

The “Maisons du Quantique” project aims to foster initiatives for the co-location of local hybrid quantum computing ecosystems in several French regions, and to offer them co-funding and networking opportunities at the national, European, and international levels.

These initiatives also benefit from a privileged connection with the HQI initiative and its partners, notably through promoting access to the HQI platform and associated services, as well as through the dissemination of results from the HQI research program.

The establishment of a national governance structure for the “Maisons du Quantique” network is intended to facilitate the expansion of local high-performance computing and quantum computing ecosystems throughout France, as well as their engagement with other international initiatives. This governance structure is established jointly by the leaders of the certified projects and the partners of the HQI initiative.

Projects awarded the “Maisons du Quantique” label must support the development of hybrid computing and, in particular, be capable of proposing exploratory projects that will take advantage of the services offered on the HQI platform. In particular, this involves launching initiatives designed to foster collaborations between industry and academic partners with use cases, hybrid quantum computing stakeholders, and academics—following the model of the Île-de-France Region’s “Pack Quantique.”
